Rebranding Project Management
Book Cover Design // Dow Publishing
Dow Publishing writes project management books for students and professionals. As part of a set of new releases, I designed the book covers of Project Management Communication ToolsThe Tactical Guide for Building a PMO, and The PMO Lifecycle, available on Amazon today.
Contributions
  - Understand client’s needs and provide multiple concepts for client to review
  - Iterative design concepts: layout designs, color schemes, typography
My Process

Research
Before I started any design work, I went on Amazon to see what types of project management books were being sold today, since I knew that was the channel my client was going to use to sell his books.
Main Observations
1. Designs look dated
2. Most designs exude a corporate, rigid, and intimidating feel
3. Colors used are saturated, cold, and uninviting
Propose Solution
Create a simple, clean cover design that elegantly captures the essence of project management. The design should easily translate to other books that may be written in the future so that all of the client's books have a distinct, unified look.
Brainstorm and Iterate
I produced lightweight concepts through initial brainstorming and kept my client in the loop throughout my design process.
Final Edits
After multiple back and forths, my client chose to go with the latter of my concepts. I iterated some more and landed on the final book cover designs below.
